Most saunas we deliver in Whitby, Ajax, Pickering and Oshawa go indoors. New builds come with an unfinished basement and full height ceilings, and a Clearlight Sanctuary 2 at $11,795 assembles in an afternoon in the corner of that basement without any renovation. Townhomes and semis in Ajax and north Oshawa have less floor area, and the Sanctuary 1 at $10,495 fits where a treadmill would. A finished basement bedroom or the space beside the furnace room works too. Check the door width, the ceiling height and the location of the nearest outlet before you buy, and we will tell you which cabin fits.
Outdoor cedar saunas belong on the bigger properties: Lake Scugog waterfront near Port Perry, rolling moraine acreage around Uxbridge, farm lots in north Clarington and the older deep lots in Bowmanville and Newcastle. The Serenity Sauna at $17,495 and the smaller Serenity Mini at $14,995 are built from Western red cedar, and the heater is sold separately so you can choose electric or wood burning. A wood burner suits a rural lot where running a new 240V line to the back of the property would cost more than the sauna itself. Set it on a level gravel or concrete base and check with the township about accessory structures.

Place it near an outlet, leave a few inches behind it for airflow and set it on the concrete or a finished floor, never on carpet underlay that traps moisture.
Can I run a wood-burning Serenity sauna on a Lake Scugog or Uxbridge property?
Yes, and it is one of the best uses of a rural lot. A wood burning heater needs no hydro, which is a real advantage when the sauna sits well away from the house. Ask the Township of Scugog or Uxbridge about accessory buildings and chimney clearances before you pour the base, and keep firewood dry under cover through the freezing rain season.
What base does an outdoor sauna need on a lot with fresh sod?
A level, well drained base that keeps the cedar off wet ground: compacted gravel with patio stones, a concrete pad or a small deck all work. Fresh sod on Durham clay will settle unevenly for a season, so do not set the sauna directly on the lawn. Keep the base clear of the drainage swale that runs between new houses.
Will a cedar sauna stand up to the wind and freezing rain off Lake Ontario?
Western red cedar is the traditional outdoor sauna wood for exactly this reason: it resists rot and stays stable through wet and dry cycles. In Ajax and Pickering, where the southwest wind comes off the water, face the door away from the prevailing wind and anchor the sauna to its base. A coat of exterior finish on the roof and exposed ends every couple of seasons keeps it looking new.
How do you get a Serenity sauna into a fenced subdivision yard?
Much more easily than a hot tub. Serenity saunas arrive as panels and are assembled on the base in your yard, so they pass through a standard gate one piece at a time with no crane and no fence panel removal. Allow a day for assembly and a visit from your electrician afterward if you chose an electric heater.
